On April 4, five teams competed in the Spark Zone New Product Competition: Final Pitch, for a chance to gain access to $10,000 in seed funding. Open to all students at Spark Zone partner institutions including NSCAD University, NSCC, Saint Mary’s University, Mount Saint Vincent University, the Atlantic School of Theology, and the University of Kings College, The New Product Competition was hosted at Saint Mary’s University in partnership with the David Sobey Centre for Innovation in Retailing & Services.

The competition began on March 1, when 15 students participated in the opening round of the competition, the ProtoHack, which challenged them to ideate new products that would serve as a customer experience solution for retailers. Over the past month, students have been working in teams to build on their ideas, conduct market research, and prototype their products. During the Final Pitch, all five teams pitched their product ideas to a panel of judges including guest judge Mark Innes, COO of Macquarries Pharmasave and a live audience. Three teams were awarded seed funding to put towards the development of their ideas.
