The Pipeline

You Excel. We Accelerate.

The Pipeline is a social innovation accelerator designed to provide students and community groups the opportunity to ideate and launch sustainable social enterprises.

Through a 12 stage process, The Pipeline challenges the way participants think to ensure the business models created are fundamentally sustainable and scalable. The Pipeline uses the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for exposing global challenges, and uses social innovation as a stimulus for creating community solutions.

1 Race 4 Oceans Pipeline

The 1 Race 4 Oceans Pipeline is a series of 5 workshops hosted by the Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre that teaches students how to launch a successful social enterprise through design thinking, innovation, and accelerating ideas. Over the course of six weeks, students will work in teams to develop new innovative ideas and turn them into real social enterprises that help solve challenges facing our oceans.

The Pipeline is currently accepting 20 ambitious SMUdents from all faculties who are eager to use their knowledge to solve one of the world’s greatest challenges, our oceans.

Students are not required to have any prior knowledge or experience in developing business models. Students do not need to have an existing idea or a team established before signing up.

The Pipeline is an opportunity to:

  • Develop new ideas that could solve oceans-based challenges
  • Be immersed in experiential learning
  • Apply in-class education to the real world
  • Learn the process of creating a social enterprise
  • Showcase your creative and innovative skills
  • Develop essential skills in team-based work
  • Students must be currently enrolled at Saint Mary’s University. Teams of 2-5 can sign up or individuals can sign up and join/form a team.
  • All students from already formed teams must EACH register individually and list the names of their team members in the registration form

Students interested in registering for The Pipeline must be able to commit their time to five workshops throughout the semester.
